Julian Brandt offers Arsenal plenty of options as star is ‘tempted’ by transfer

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would be signing a versatile player should the Gunners make a move for Julian Brandt this month.

With the transfer window opening on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund star Brandt has been linked with a move to the Emirates.

German outlet Bild claim that 24-year-old is tempted by a move to the Premier League giants having fallen down the pecking order at Dortmund.

Of his 21 appearances in all competitions this season, just eight of them have been starts for the Bundesliga side.

Arsenal’s interest comes with Arteta and Gunners chief Edu keen to sign a creative player amid their current struggles.

And Brandt can slot in anywhere in midfield, or even across the front-line having impressed in those positions during his career.

His best performance for Dortmund this season, according to WhoScored, came from a left-wing position.

It came in a 5-2 win at Hertha Berlin with Brandt laying on an assist having played the full 90 minutes.

Should he move to Arsenal, Arteta may wish to start him in that position given the manager’s determination to play Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang centrally.

Aubameyang often drifts out to the left, but having Brandt there may force the Gabon star to stay central.

Brandt could also slot in the No. 10 position, potentially playing behind Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette.

The German has a strong passing and dribbling range, allowing him to set up plenty of opportunities for Arsenal, something that the Gunners are desperate for.

Edu recently admitted: “It’s quite clear what we need. We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now.”
