West Ham produced a smash and grab performance to take all three points off Everton on David Moyes's return to Goodison Park on New Years' Day.
The hosts were hopeful of gaining ground on table-topping rivals Liverpool with a victory, but Tomas Soucek's late goal ensured the Hammers stole all the spoils.
The Hammers had been sturdy in defence all evening, limiting Dominic Calvert-Lewin's involvement, as well as that of James Rodriguez when he came on as a second-half sub.
And their efforts were rewarded as Soucek reacted quickly when Aaron Cresswell's shot was deflected into his path to sidefoot the ball past Jordan Pickford in the 86th minute.
Here are Andy Dunn's player ratings.
Everton
Pickford 7
Would have expected to make the saves he did and no chance with goal
Coleman 5
Did not get a massive amount of help but laboured a little
Mina 6
Lucky not to be cautioned and inadvertently assisted the winner
Holgate 6
A coupe of mildly crucial interventions but not severely stretched
Godfrey 6
Continues to look value for money but has more to offer going forward
Doucoure 6
One of the more eye-catching performers but faded later in game
Davies 6
Booked. Enjoyed spraying a few passes around from deep but not overly influential
Bernard 6
Responsible for the solitary first half shot on target and it was half-decent
Sigurdsson 5
Sent over a couple of decent set-pieces but unimportant in open play
Richarlison 5
Switched to his favoured left side early on but not to great effect
Calvert-Lewin 5
Starved of possession, isolated and a periphery figure in proceedings
Subs
Rodriguez (Bernard 65 mins) 6
Gomes (Sigurdsson 65 mins) 6
Tosun ( Calvert-Lewin 79 mins) 6
West Ham
Randolph 7
Late call-up after Fabianski injured in warm-up and acquitted himself well
Coufal 6
Booked. Very tidy but might have expected to have a more testing evening
Dawson 6
Look to be struggling after one first half moment but recovered to be steady
Ogbonna 8
Rock-solid, dominant in the air and kept it advisably simple with his distribution
Cresswell 6
Got himself into some good attacking positions but final product not great
Rice 7
Not nearly at his most influential but linked play well nonetheless
Bowen 6
One of the more daring operators but nothing much came off for him
Fornals 6
Gave away a needless, dangerous free-kick but generally neat and tidy
Soucek 7
Smuggled himself into some threatening positions and it eventually paid off
Benrahma 7
Knitted things together nicely but not overly ambitious with his pass choices
Haller 6
A thankless task on occasions but too often looked a little cumbersome
Subs
Antonio (Haller 59 mins) 6
Lanzini (Fornals 73 mins) 6
Yarmolenko (Bowen 73 mins) 6
