Leeds will rise into the Premier League as champions, celebrating their first silverware in 28 years just a day after winning promotion.

Lee Gregory was the man to hand the title to Leeds, with the Stoke forward scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday – after West Brom’s hopes had been ended by defeat to Huddersfield on Friday.

Whites fans partied late into the night following the historic and long-awaited promotion, celebrations that will now extend to mark a special 24-hours.

Leeds were victorious over Barnsley on Friday as Huddersfield ended West Brom’s hopes

Leeds’ 1-0 victory over Barnsley on Friday put the pressure on their rivals after Michael Sollbauer’s own-goal sunk the Championship’s basement boys, taking the West Yorkshire side to 87 points.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will now be able to relax through their last two games of the season, travelling to Derby on Sunday before Wednesday’s final-day clash with Charlton at Elland Road.

It is a title won in emotional circumstances after the death of club legends Norman Hunter and more recently Jack Charlton, with both sending the club into mourning.

A return to the Premier League also comes after 16 years of frustration below the top-flight, with 14 managers coming and going before Bielsa’s success – as well as a spell in League One for the English giants.

Thousands of fans gathered outside Elland Road to celebrate promotion on Friday night following West Brom’s defeat, while the players took in the game together before an explosion of job as the final whistle blew, as champagne was sprayed and chants of ‘we are going up’ grew louder and louder.

Patrick Bamford believes Marcelo Bielsa will have his side ready for the top-flight straight away too, with the goal-scorer quipping to the BBC: ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already watched all the teams in the Premier League.’
