Leicester star Fofana sent public apology after horror tackle against Villarreal

Leicester City star Wesley Fofana was sent an apology from Villarreal’s Fernando Nino following his horror tackle during Wednesday’s pre-season friendly.

Fofana suffered a fractured fibula after Nino slide tackled the Leicester midfielder from behind, leaving him in agony.

Medics were immediately called to tend to Fofana, who eventually left the field on a stretcher.

It is not yet clear how long Fofana will be out for, but the 20-year-old is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Fofana later took to Instagram to post a message, in which he thanked Leicester’s medical staff for their help and support.

Brendan Rodgers provided an injury update on Fofana in his recent press conference ahead of the Community Shield against Manchester City on Saturday.

“He fractured his fibula. So it’s a horrendous injury for us and we are devastated for him,” said Rodgers.

“He’s a top class player so he’s going to be a huge loss for us.

“Our medical team were fantastic. They looked after him. Our trauma doctor was able to put his ankle back in place. Then he went to the hospital.

“He has another scan today, which he couldn’t have last night because the ankle was so swollen.

“That will give us a clearer indication of how long he will be out for.”

Nino later posted an apology on his Instagram account following the horrendous challenge on the 20-year-old.

The message reads: “He’s a top class player so he’s going to be a huge loss for us.

Fofana joined the Foxes on a five-year deal from Saint-Etienne last October in a move worth up to £36.5million.
