Liverpool fans hijack Jack Grealish’s Man City tweet from 2012

Jack Grealish has finally arrived on the international scene, after Gareth Southgate handed him a long overdue first competitive start for England.

The Aston Villa skipper has been one of the most in-form players in the Premier League, with four goals and six assists in the opening seven fixtures.

That has led to a clamour for Southgate to put the 25-year-old into the starting line-up and against Belgium he obliged.

Grealish played 90 minutes in Leuven and despite England’s 2-0 defeat, he was the visitors' stand out player.

Speaking after the game, Southgate heaped praise on him, claiming he has added a new element to the squad since his call-up.

"We couldn’t have been happier with what he did," he said. "He should be really proud of his performance – he really stood up against as tough an opponent as you could face.

“I think firstly as a person since he’s come into the camp, he’s impressed us with his approach, curious to find out what we’re looking for from him and has taken that on board with his performances in training and in games.

“He’s transferred his club performances into international football tonight against a top level opponent.”

The Villa talisman was linked with a transfer for much of the summer, with Manchester United said to be very keen on signing him.

However, he would ultimately sign a new contract with his boyhood club, but his performances are sure to mean that speculation will continue.

And eagle eyed Liverpool fans have noticed Grealish talking about his support for the Reds, in a tweet from 2012.

The post reads: “Man city vs Liverpool ??? I'm having liverpool ! Come on the reds !!! Predictions??”

Would Jack Grealish get into Liverpool' best XI if he was to sign for the Reds? Have your say below.

Liverpool lost that game 3-0, but their situation has now transformed under Jurgen Klopp and some supporters believe the German should go all out to sign England’s newest star.

“Yes lad, in 2021 join Klopp’s mighty Reds,” one fan said, while another replied: “So he has made his choice, draw the overdraft let’s sign him”.

A third messaged the club, saying: “Bring him in please”.

“Bring him home”, another said, while a fifth posted: “Welcome to the best team in the world”.
