Liverpool officially confirm four exits as Reds post emotional statement

Liverpool have confirmed that four first-team players will be leaving this summer. The Reds have posted an emotional statement after announcing the quartet will not have their contracts renewed.

Roberto Firmino’s departure has already been known for over a month. He will be joined through the exit door by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita.

Liverpool confirmed all four stars will receive special acknowledgement at Anfield at this Saturday’s game against Aston Villa. It is the club’s final home game of the campaign as they attempt to sneak a place in the Premier League top four.

The statement read: “With the visit of Aston Villa on Saturday being the Reds’ final home fixture of the campaign, special acknowledgements will be paid to the quartet at Anfield, with further tributes to follow across the club’s digital platforms after the end of the season as we wish Roberto, Naby, James, Alex and their families the very best for the future.

“All four players will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution they have made.”

Firmino, 31, has been at Liverpool since signing from Hoffenheim in 2015. He has made over 350 appearances in all competitions, surpassing the 100-goal mark earlier this season.

The Brazilian was serenaded by supporters during Monday’s win at Leicester. He is hoping to return from a muscle injury before the end of the campaign in order to say farewell on the pitch.

Milner joined Liverpool the same summer as Firmino, arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City. He has been an invaluable member of Klopp’s squad, playing in a variety of positions in midfield and defence.

A move to Brighton looks set to be on the agenda for the 37-year-old. Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for Liverpool from Arsenal in 2017 but has seen recent seasons dogged by injury problems.

Naby Keita has also seen much of his time at Liverpool affected by injuries. The 28-year-old has not been able to live up to his billing since joining from RB Leipzig in 2018.
