Liverpool plan Konstantinos Tsimikas medical for next week with £11.75m transfer close

Liverpool are reportedly close to agreeing a £11.75m deal with Olympiacos for Konstantinos Tsimikas. The left-back is expected on Merseyside next week to complete his medical after impressing the club’s recruitment team.

Jamal Lewis had been their first choice option but Norwich priced them out a move.

The club tabled an opening offer of around £10m but the Canaries demanded around £20m.

The Championship club have now scared the Reds off and now Liverpool are happy to complete a deal for Tsimikas.

His performance in the Europa League have left a lasting impression on Liverpool scouts, who also watched him in action against Wolves on Thursday.

Tsimikas has similar energy levels to Andy Robertson and will act as the Scotland captain’s deputy.

According to The Independent, an agreement worth around £11.75m is imminent.

He is also expected to arrive on Merseyside next week to complete his medical.

Leicester were also tracking Tsimikas and had identified him as a potential replacement for Ben Chilwell.

There’s no doubt that there will be some frustration from Lewis’ camp that he has been priced out of a move to Anfield.

He was understood to be ready to jump at the chance to join Liverpool and work with two of the best full-backs in world football in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Robertson.

Lewis had accepted that he was set to be a back-up option to Robertson initially but he was happy to compete for his place in the side.

Now he could be set to stay with Norwich who has may have to reduce their asking price if he is to secure a move back to the Premier League

James Milner has been Liverpool’s back-up left-back but now they feel something more sustainable is required.

Robertson is rarely rested but should Tsimikas sign, the Reds will have the chance to rotate and ease the burden on the former Hull City man.

Tsimikas also played in this season’s Champions League group stage, impressing against both Tottenham and Bayern Munich.

Olympiacos are ready to sell due to the imapct of the COVID-19 crisis, Norwich’s demands were ultimately too far apart from Liverpool’s in talks over Lewis.
