Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk posts recovery update
Liverpool have recalled young central defender Morgan Boyes amid the injury crisis Jurgen Klopp’s are struggling with. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all out leaving the Reds short on options in the heart of defence.
The 19-year-old joined Fleetwood Town on a season-long loan back in August.
That was after he had made two senior appearances for -Liverpool in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last year.
Fabinho, Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips are the three players available to Klopp to take the two central defence spots.
A statement on the Liverpool website read: “Liverpool FC can confirm it has reached an agreement with Fleetwood Town for the recall of Morgan Boyes from his loan spell.

“The 19-year-old defender originally joined the League One side on a temporary basis in August.
“The Wales U21 international has made two first-team appearances for the Reds and will now return to training at Kirkby.”
Liverpool return to action on Monday when they take on Southampton in the Premier League (8pm).
The Reds have been linked with a number of central defenders heading into the January transfer window including the likes of David Alaba and Dayot Upamecano.

Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann does not think the Reds will be able to sign Alaba from Bayern Munich in January.
“I think [Alaba’s] preferred destination was always Spain,” Hamann told Stadium Astro.
“I’m not sure if he wants to go to the Premier League and come to Liverpool.
“The fact that Liverpool are interested is not a surprise because Alaba has probably been one of the best centre-backs – after Virgil van Dijk – for the last 12-18 months.
“But I just don’t see Bayern Munich letting him go in January.”
Dayot Upamecano is also said to be a target for Liverpool, but Hamann doesn’t think RB Leipzig will sell this month.
“Dayot Upamecano from Leipzig, who is absolutely tremendous at the back – Leipzig won’t let him go,” Hamann said.
“I don’t think there is any chance whatsoever that [Liverpool] get a centre-back who will improve them for the next six weeks or next few years.
“I think [Upamecano] has a [release] clause [that would become active] in the summer. These clubs won’t sell [mid-season],” Hamann said bluntly.
“[Klopp] needs to see what he can get in January. You look at players who are not in the Champions League, maybe a bit lower down, and I’m not sure this is the type of player that Liverpool need to improve.”
