Liverpool transfer news – Lewis ‘desperate’ plus Ismaila Sarr and Traore latest

Liverpool didn’t make any major transfer signings last summer, but it didn’t prevent them from racing out of the traps and winning the Premier League title this season.

While they passed up the chance to sign Timo Werner, the number of rumours circulating regarding players potentially signing for the Reds suggests they may be busier in the market this time around as they look to bolster their squad ahead of their title defence.

And there are certain players who may look to follow Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren in leaving the club.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer stories.

Sell before Thiago can join

The saga of whether the Reds are going to sign Thiago or not continues to rumble on. The latest update from Kicker is that Liverpool's owners have declared no players can be brought in unless money is raised from player sales.

This renders the deal even more unlikely, as Bayern Munich are reportedly holding out for £32million, so Klopp would have to sell one of his key players in order to raise that kind of money.

But until Thiago’s future is formally settled, this is one rumour which will continue to do the rounds.

Lewis ‘desperate’ to sign for Reds

While Liverpool’s squad doesn’t require extensive work, one area in which they are short is cover at left-back.

James Milner has filled in for Andy Robertson in the past, but the Reds could certainly benefit from acquiring a specialist for the position.

Enter Jamal Lewis. The Norwich City defender has been linked with Liverpool, though their offer of £10m is reportedly only half of what the Canaries are looking for.

However, the Mail have claimed that Lewis is 'desperate' to move to Anfield.

Ex-City star says Traore could cut it at Liverpool

Liverpool’s apparent reluctance to spend big money this summer probably rules them out of the running to sign Adama Traore, a player with whom they have been repeatedly linked in recent months.

While the deal seems unlikely, the Spaniard has been backed to be able to play for either of the Premier League’s top two clubs.

Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott spoke to Football Index and provided his thoughts on Traore’s ability.

"Traore could easily play for Manchester City or Liverpool. I have never seen such speed and strength on a football pitch before,” he said.

Traore’s potential exit from Wolves could have other implications for Liverpool in the transfer market.

According to the Watford Observer, if he leaves then Nuno Espirito Santo could make a move for Ismaila Sarr, the Senegalese star who is also believed to be of interest to the Reds.

Similarly, Crystal Palace may make a move for Sarr if Wilfried Zaha departs from Selhurst Park, so while this could be a merry-go-round rumour, other transfer moves may ultimately determine where Sarr plays in 2020/21.
