Arsenal have been asked to sell Lucas Torreira to Boca Juniors this summer because he is suffering alone in Europe following the tragic passing of his mother.
Ricardo Torreira has been in contact with Argentine radio station Radio Continental to explain how his son has been left in pain following the death of mum Viviana Di Pascua due to Covid-19.
He has explained why the midfielder is now ready to fulfil his dream of playing for Superliga champions Boca Juniors, but admitted that the finances could cause an issue.
The Uruguay midfielder is currently on loan from the Gunners to Atletico Madrid, where he has scored once across 22 appearances as they hold onto a narrow lead at the top of La Liga.
As reported by TycSports, Torreira Sr said: "Lucas is suffering a lot to be alone there in Europe, we are seeing how we can be there with him until the end of the season.
"When you lose a person as happened to us, so dear, you realise that life passes you by the other side. If Lucas wants to come to Boca, let him come.
"We want to resolve Arsenal’s departure first and then sit down with Boca. If they believe it is convenient that Lucas is the player, they will exhaust the resources to reach an agreement.
"We raised the situation and it seems crazy, that playing in Europe and being able to win millions of dollars. If he happens to return to South America to play football, we are not crazy about ambition."
Lucas said earlier in the week that he asked for Diego Simeone for some time off following his heartbreaking loss, before noting his desire to return to South America.
He told ESPN : "I am trying to understand the situation. It is difficult to come to terms with it but as time passes, we will come to live with this pain.
"My mother was 53 years old and died from Covid. There was an outbreak in Fray Bentos [Torreira's hometown] and she spent 11 days fighting but on Monday morning I received the worst news.
"I asked Atletico Madrid for some time off. Cholo [Simeone] understood everything and they gave me a week, but I asked to stay for a little longer. On Sunday I will probably return. I have to do my duty and life must continue.
