Manchester City could well prove Gary Neville right in their final two games of the Premier League season. Pep Guardiola’s side have stormed to their fifth title in six seasons after taking advantage of Arsenal’s dramatic drop in form.
Arsenal were eight points clear of City as recently as April 2. However, they have capitulated in the games since and handed the title on a plate to their rivals.
City were crowned champions on Saturday when they still had three matches of the season remaining. It has been a remarkable turn of events.
Neville maintained the view for most of the campaign that City would leapfrog Arsenal. He eventually came around to the idea that Mikel Arteta’s side would end the club’s 19-year wait for a Premier League title.

However, despite holding that view, he predicted in February that if City did overtake Arsenal with a few games remaining, they would end up finishing 10 points clear of the Gunners. That could turn out to be the case this week.
City are currently seven points clear of Arsenal. Victory at Brighton on Wednesday would increase the gap to 10 points before both teams play their final game of the campaign on Wednesday.
Neville was laughed at at the time for his opinion. But the Manchester United legend looks set to be proven correct.

Speaking on the Overlap in February, Neville said: “I believe that 85 points will win a team the Premier League this season. This is a traditional season where Arsenal won’t win the league easily, which it never is after not winning it for many years.
“Arsenal will limp over the line in May and will come under pressure. But in terms of Arsenal having a big lead currently, we were thinking on Saturday afternoon about how quickly the points difference will change – the lead over Manchester City can change very quickly.
“It could happen multiple times between now and the end of the season, where Arsenal will lose, Manchester City will win and then the gap closes quite rapidly. If Manchester City overtake Arsenal with five to 10 games left to go, they’ll win it by 10 points, but if Arsenal are to win the league, they’ll win it in the penultimate or last game of the season.”
