Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen has dropped a hint on his next club by claiming that he ‘idolises’ Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. The Blues have sorely lacked goals this season and are rumoured to be in the hunt for Osimhen, who continues to keep his cards close to his chest.
The Azzurri took a big gamble in 2020 by making Osimhen the most expensive African player of all time after just one full season with Lille. The Nigerian started slowly, with just 10 goals in his first season, but the stars now appear to be aligning for the 24-year-old.
Napoli have established themselves as the dominant force in Serie A this term and Osimhen’s goals look set to fire them towards a first league title since 1989/90. He and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have formed a deadly duo and both players are sure to attract interest this summer.
Chelsea and Man Utd are among the clubs reported to have held talks over Osimhen, with Napoli poised to hold out for a fee in excess of £88million.

The player himself has hinted that Stamford Bridge could be his preferred destination, claiming that he ‘loved’ to watch Drogba while growing up. “Didier Drogba is my idol,” he told Sport1. “I loved watching him play as a kid.
“The way he played and what he did as a guy is unbelievable. I look up to him. I always wanted to be like him. I’m glad I’m now succeeding in a competition that he put his stamp on so much.”

Drogba scored 157 goals in 341 games during his first stint at Chelsea, notching the winning penalty in the 2011/12 Champions League final and numerous crucial goals at Wembley. The Blues are set to hunt down a striker this summer with Graham Potter’s side lacking in firepower, which has left them loitering in mid-table.
It remains to be seen whether their lowly league position hands the upper hand to United, who are set to qualify for the Champions League. “I don’t know what the future holds,” added Osimhen.
“I think I’m on the right track. At the end of the season, I will sit down with my agents and discuss everything. I will also be in talks with the club. I am incredibly grateful to Napoli. We will find a good solution together.”
Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly in the hunt for the marksman, who has scored 19 Serie A goals so far this season, while Bayern Munich are not considered to be contenders.
