Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly set to battle it out for Jack Grealish’s signature in the January transfer window.
Grealish is a man in demand after producing a string of breathtaking performances for Aston Villa this season, helping Dean Smith’s men win seven of their first 12 Premier League games of the campaign.
The 25-year-old, who put pen to paper on a new five-year deal at Villa Park in September, has registered five goals and six assists so far in 2020/21.
He was the subject of reported interest from United in the previous transfer window, only to sign a lucrative contract extension when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co hesitated in tabling an offer.
It is believed the Red Devils refused to meet his £80million price tag at the time – but that value will only have increased amid his stunning form for Villa.
Grealish has also become a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad this season, meaning he is in pole position to secure a place at next summer’s delayed European Championship.
And according to The Mirror, long-term admirers United and neighbours City want him to be their player by the time he’s strutting his stuff at Euro 2020.
Villa are said to be expecting January approaches from both Manchester clubs at the turn of the year, despite billionaire co-owner Nassef Sawiris’ firm stance on keeping hold of their MVP.
Premier League champions Liverpool are also believed to be weighing up a move for Grealish amid doubts over Mohamed Salah’s future on Merseyside.
All three potential suitors will expect to qualify for next season’s Champions League, which could tempt the playmaker to leave Villa at the end of the season.

However, the report states that United and City are ready to test Villa’s resolve and register their interest in the January window.
It is highly unlikely they will offload Grealish next month after their own encouraging start to the season, yet City will not be put off by an asking price that exceeds £100million – as Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the player.
