Man Utd are third best team left in Europa League, claims Inter Milan legend

Manchester United have been labelled the third best team left in the Europa League by Germany legend Andreas Brehme, who reckons Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen are both superior to the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the competition where they will take on FC Copenhagen on Monday evening.

The other quarter-finals see Inter take on Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk play FC Basel and Wolves meet Sevilla.

Brehme, who played for Inter from 1988-92, feels that his former club and Leverkusen are the best teams left in the competition and whichever side wins their quarter-final will likely go on to beat Man Utd in the final.

Asked which side will come through the Inter vs Leverkusen clash, Brehme was clear.

‘I have no doubt, for me it’s Inter,’ he told Gazzetta dello Sport. ‘The Nerazzurri are a great team, although Bayer Leverkusen are strong and have an excellent forward like Havertz, but Conte’s squad takes the lead.

‘I’d say, whoever wins this game has a great chance of raising the Europa League. The semi-final against either Shakhtar Donetsk or Basel is winnable.

‘On the other side of the bracket I think Manchester United will qualify for the finals. But both Inter and Bayer are stronger than the English club.’

Paul Scholes agrees with Brehme that Inter will likely be Manchester United’s opponents in a blockbuster final, but the former Red Devils midfielder is backing the Premier League club to come out on top.

‘This Europa League is a really big opportunity for them now,’ Scholes told BT Sport.

‘The biggest threat to Man United winning this Europa League to me is Inter Milan, I think they’re along with United the best team in it.

‘I think if that’s the final that will be a great final, something really to look forward to. There’s motivation on each side especially from Inter players, look at Lukaku the way he left the club, that could be a big story.

‘But I just think if United are firing, they’re mentally right, they’re fresh, I think they’ve got better players than inter Milan, they’ll just come through that. They’ll beat Copenhagen I don’t think its a problem.’
