Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has tested positive for Covid-19, the Premier League giants have confirmed.

But the Red Devils' friendly with Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday will still go ahead, despite Lingard being forced to isolate.

Lingard had been with the squad on a training camp this week, though United reported he had tested positive on Saturday morning.

The Red Devils state midfielder Lingard is isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines.

Lingard tweeted: "Really gutted to have tested positive after a good pre season, luckily I feel fine and will follow the guidelines and be back with the boys on pitch very soon! Thank you for your support."

But the rest of the squad is not isolating with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw among those set to start against Everton.

Lingard's Manchester United future has been up in the air this summer with the England ace spending part of last season on loan at West Ham.

He impressed in east London and earned a recall into the Three Lions squad, though missed out on a spot at the Euros.

Lingard had said: “Regular football is the most important thing for me.

“After going on loan and getting a good run in the team, you started to see the real me, with the goals and the assists.

“I’ve never doubted my ability; I’ve always believed in myself. I spoke to the manager (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer) in pre-season and said, ‘I need game time’.”

While boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had said: "He came seven or eight days later than the rest but he's a naturally fit boy.

"He's a man, he played with a few boys but he's one of the men!

"Jesse has come back, been bright, he wants to fight for his place and there's nothing better than seeing players want to fight for their place.

"What he did towards the end of last season, that's the true Jesse, that's what we know he's capable of.

"I think we saw towards the end of the season that we lacked some options at times, so Jesse is in the plans at the moment."
