Man Utd target Varane insists he is “100 per cent committed” to Real Madrid

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane has insisted he is 100% committed to the Spanish side – amidst transfer speculation that he could be on the move to Manchester United this summer.

The Frenchman's contract expires next year: however, the Manchester Evening News reported that Real are tempted to sell this summer to prevent him leaving on a free next year.

"My future is clear; I am focused on the end of the season," Varane said in a pre-match press conference.

"We are in an intense moment, and all our focus is on the matches we have ahead.

"The message to the fans is that I am 100 per cent committed to the team. We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I am focused on giving everything on the field."

Varane has spent the majority of his career in the Spanish capital, making over 200 appearances for Real- after joining from RC Lens in 2011.

However, his days as a Madrid player seem to be numbered with longtime admirers United at the front of the queue.

When speaking to El Larguero, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez said: “I’m happy of our team. We have a great defence, a great midfield, but yes we have to do something in the attack. [On Varane?] If players don’t want to stay at Madrid they can leave.”

United tried – and failed – to bring Varane to Old Trafford in 2018 following the World Cup. Instead, The Red Devils signed Harry Maguire.

Now, United are on the lookout for a long-term partner for the former Leicester man.

Madrid, however, are keen on bringing Kylian Mbappe to the club this summer, and with rising debts, Los Blancos may be forced to cut costs with both Varane and, club captain, Sergio Ramos set to leave.
