Man Utd team news: Expected XI to face Liverpool – Solskjaer to make four big changes

Man Utd: Solskjaer confident forwards can be match for all

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to make four changes for his side’s FA Cup showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Red Devils go into the game looking to make the fifth round of the competition. So Express Sport will now take a look at how they should line up for the match at the Theatre of Dreams, with four big changes expected.

Goalkeeper: Henderson

In recent years, United have often had Sergio Romero come in for FA Cup matches with David De Gea being left on the bench.

And with Romero out of favour at Old Trafford, Dean Henderson is likely to selected instead.

The United star kept Watford at bay in his last outing, keeping a clean sheet as Scott McTominay’s winner knocked the Hornets out.

So he should be selected between the sticks.

De Gea would then be on the bench, something the Spain international may have to grow accustomed to over the course of the campaign.

Defence: Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw

While Eric Bailly impressed in the midweek win over Fulham, Victor Lindelof is likely to come in for the Ivory Coast international.

United are keen to manage Bailly’s game time carefully, with injuries hitting him hard over the years.

Lindelof was picked for the goalless draw at Anfield a week ago and did nothing wrong that day, successfully keeping Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane at bay.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are primed to start on the flanks.

And club captain Harry Maguire should start the game.

Midfield: Fred, McTominay, Fernandes

United love using Fred and Scott McTominay for the big games.

So we expect the Brazil and Scotland internationals to be called upon as Solskjaer goes in search of an FA Cup win.

Ahead of them, of course, will be Bruno Fernandes.

The United star’s high performance levels have dropped off of late, with the Portugal international going four games without a goal.

But he’s just too vital for Solskjaer to drop.

Attack: Rashford, Cavani, Pogba

United should restore Marcus Rashford to the starting XI for the match against Liverpool.

Benched for the 2-1 win over Fulham on Wednesday, the England international has been in brilliant form this season.

Edinson Cavani should get the nod up top, too, with the Uruguay international currently operating at the peak of his powers.

And, on the left wing, Paul Pogba could be deployed.

He’s been in sensational form recently and the Red Devils will need him at their best if they’re to put Liverpool to the sword.

Solskjaer hails Pogba

Solskjaer has hailed Pogba ahead of the match at Old Trafford, saying: “Paul’s job is to get himself fit and play football. My job is to be open and honest with him and give him my advice and I’ve never had a problem with him.

“I talk openly and directly with Paul. I’m not going to tell anyone what my advice to him is but I have always had a good relationship with him.

“He comes from a great family, he’s very understandable, he’s a very sensible boy and he knows what I’m talking about when we speak.

“Paul is honest with me as well. He’s up front and honest with me too. And what people don’t see with Paul is even when he isn’t playing he’s contributed loads in the background.

“Sometimes he’s even acted as the interpretor between me and different players – even when he isn’t playing.

“He always respects my decisions and we’ve always had a very good working relationship.”
