Man Utd transfer round-up as Bissouma targeted and forgotten man nears exit

Manchester United hit Leeds for six with an entertaining victory over their old enemy on Sunday evening.

The midfield duo of Scott McTominay shone in the 6-2 win, but the latest speculation suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains set on strengthening his options in the centre of the park.

Defensive midfield has long been a problem area for the Red Devils boss and he, like Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, has reportedly identified Brighton's Yves Bissouma as the player to address this.

Elsewhere, Solskjaer provided an update on Daniel James' future amid rumours the winger may depart Old Trafford in January.

And United's forgotten defender may be handed a lifeline next month, with two top-flight clubs keen to whisk him away on loan.

Here is Tuesday's Manchester United transfer round-up.

Red Devils join Bissouma race

Manchester United will rival Liverpool and Arsenal to sign Brighton star Yves Bissouma, according to the Manchester Evening News .

Bissouma, 24, moved to the Amex from Lille in 2018 and has two-and-a-half seasons remaining on his deal.

His eye-catching displays for the Seagulls have grabbed the attention of Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal in recent months, while United are latecomers in the race for the Mali international.

The report adds Ligue 1 club Monaco and two teams from Spain are also monitoring the situation closely.

Solskjaer provides James update

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Daniel James has a "big role to play" for Manchester United in the second half of the season.

James, 23, has found minutes hard to come by this season but made good on a rare start in the Premier League by scoring in the 6-2 thrashing of Leeds.

It wasn't a faultless performance, however, as the winger – who has been linked with a January move to Leeds – received a yellow card for diving in the box.

Addressing the booking, Solskjaer said: "He’s proven time and time again how he can improve our performances at times with his exceptional pace.

"It’s not that I’m too worried about it but it does do my head in when he gets a yellow card when he should have had a penalty, it’s a foul, and he’s almost been labelled as a diver before.

"But his pace is impossible to stop. And if he turns ahead and runs with it, Dan’s past him. Dan’s got a big role to play for us and it has nothing to do with whatever club he nearly signed for."

Rojo poised for January exit

Newcastle have made enquiries over signing Manchester United's forgotten man Marcos Rojo, according to The Athletic .

The Argentine defender has struggled with injuries this season and has made just 15 appearances for the club since the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

Newcastle are keen to strengthen their backline with a loan deal for Rojo in January, while Sheffield United are also keen on the 30-year-old.

Rojo's contract at Old Trafford expires next summer – though the club has the option to extend it by one year – and he is believed to want to play regular football once again.
