Man Utd transfer round-up: Jadon Sancho proposal, Alexis Sanchez developments

Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho remains a big story, but it’s not the only transfer deal this summer involving the club.

United’s third-place finish means they can offer Champions League football to new recruits without having to worry about the outcome of their Europa League campaign, and naturally this means some new names have featured on back pages across the last week or so.

Here’s what the papers at home and abroad are saying about the ins and outs at Old Trafford as Ed Woodward looks to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as much as possible to work with in the 2020/21 season.

Borussia Dortmund are ‘open’ to United’s Sancho proposal

While Borussia Dortmund seem unprepared to budge on their overall asking price for Jadon Sancho, reports in Germany suggest an instalments-based bid would be enough to get a deal for the England forward over the line.

According to Bild, via the Manchester Evening News, United are keen on a deal which would see them pay an initial £63million this year, followed by £27m next summer and a final payment of £18m in 2022, for a total of £108m.

While United are yet to make a formal offer for the former Manchester City academy player, according to the MEN, Dortmund have set a deadline of 10 August to get a deal done so they know whether he will remain at the club when they head to Switzerland for a pre-season training camp.

The 2020/21 Bundesliga season will begin on the weekend of 18 September, with the European transfer window remaining open until October, but the German club are eager to get this piece of business settled sooner rather than later.

United still in battle with Napoli to sign Brazilian defender

Manchester United have made a bid for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes but remain locked in a battle with Napoli for his signing.

That’s according to numerous reports in Italy and France, as translated by Sport Witness, with journalist Emanuele Cammaroto telling Napoli Magazine the club have put in a bid for an initial €27m for the Brazil under-20 international.

This comes after reports in L’Equipe that United were one of five clubs to lodge an offer for the player, with Everton also named by the French publication.

Lille have already made one sale to Napoli this summer, with Victor Osimhen – their top scorer last season – moving to Serie A for €50m plus up to €10m in add-ons.

The French outfit failed to qualify for the 2020/21 Champions League, sitting just a point behind third-placed Rennes when Ligue 1 was suspended early.

United ‘lower demands’ on Alexis to force through exit

Alexis Sanchez is one of the fringe players who Manchester United are prepared to let leave this summer, with Inter Milan reportedly keen to make his loan move permanent.

The Chilean has refound his form after a slow start in Italy, and manager Antonio Conte is thought to be keen to complete a move in time to use Alexis for the remainder of the Europa League. As things stand, the player is due to return to Old Trafford after this week’s last-16 tie against Getafe.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via the Express, United are ready to lower their demands from £18m to £13.4m for the player, who still has a contract in Manchester until 2022.

However, there may still be a significant issue when it comes to the player’s wages, with the 31-year-old reportedly picking up £400,000 a week at his parent club and Inter unlikely to be able to come close to matching the figure.
