Manchester United were offered nine signings during the summer transfer window including Memphis Depay and Christian Pulisic, it has been claimed. The Red Devils managed to bring in Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka to boost Erik ten Hag’s chances of title glory. However, it could have been an even busier summer at Old Trafford…

Manchester United recovered from a slow start to reinforce their squad with six new signings.

Yet Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has now revealed they were offered nine other players instead, only to not bring any of them to the Premier League.

Depay was reportedly one player who was offered to United.

The Barcelona star previously spent 18 months in Manchester between 2015 and January 2017, toiling under Louis van Gaal before being offloaded by Jose Mourinho.

Yet with the Red Devils choosing to land Antony from Ajax instead, a deal for the 28-year-old was a non-starter.

United were also offered Pulisic, who has struggled for consistency since leaving Borussia Dortmund for Chelsea back in the summer transfer window of 2019.

The USA international was on the Red Devils’ radar when Mourinho ruled the roost but, in the end, stayed at Chelsea.

Romano says United were offered Leandro Paredes and Sergino Dest as well, only for the duo to end up moving to Juventus and AC Milan respectively.

Juventus star Weston McKennie’s name was also discussed, but it appears the Red Devils were happier to land Casemiro from Real Madrid instead.

Yannick Carrasco emerged as a possible target amid his fine form for Atletico Madrid, yet Antony’s arrival meant he wasn’t pursued.

And United were also given the opportunity to land the likes of Thomas Meunier, Moises Caicedo and Hirving Lozano – only for the trio to stay at Borussia Dortmund, Brighton and Napoli respectively.

United are usually linked with many players each summer.

And they’re delighted with their transfer window in the end, despite also missing out on Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong – who was initially their priority.

Whether United go in for any of the nine players they were offered in the New Year, when the transfer window reopens, remains to be seen.

But Donny van de Beek has opened up on their fresh reinforcements and admitted he was looking forward to playing alongside them.

“I know them already, as a player,” he said when quizzed on the club’s newest assets.

“Some of the players I played against – I played against Christian, against Casemiro as well, with Ajax.

“Licha [Lisandro], I played together with him. So I know what they are capable of and they are really good players, so they will help us for sure.

“They are nice people, but they are also team players. I think this is important, to work hard together.

“As people, they fit very well with the players we have.”

And Van de Beek also insisted he was hoping to show his worth for United, while also backing Ten Hag to succeed in the dugout.

“Yes, of course. I’m really working hard for it, so I’m positive,” he said. “I’ll do my best.

“The last part of last season, I was injured, so I missed a lot. I could feel that in the first few weeks of pre-season, but now I’ve started to feel better and better. So I’m really positive.

“He [Ten Hag] will be really good for the club.

“I think in terms of the way the club is, and how they want to play, he’s a good mix for what they want as a manager.

“I’m really looking forward to it. We had big success at Ajax at that time – the semi-final of the Champions League, and we won trophies. So it was a special time.

“Now we are here, with a new chapter and a new challenge, and of course we want to do the same here.”
