Manchester City are interested in signing Real Betis defender Junior Firpo in the January transfer window but face competition from Real Madrid.
Firpo, who has been capped by Spain at U21 level, has been hugely impressive playing as a left wing-back for Betis this season and also possesses experience of playing at left-back.
As reported by The Mirror, City are seeking to bring in the 22-year-old to strengthen their resources at left-back, with Benjamin Mendy out injured again.

JUNIOR FIRPO’S SEASON SO FAR
La Liga: 15 games, three goals, one assist
Europa League: Three games, one assist
Total: 18 games, three goals, two assists
Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko are capable of filling in at left-back but Pep Guardiola wants a more natural option in that position.
If Betis were to let Firpo depart then they would demand in excess of £40million in addition to the option of signing a player on loan.
Real Madrid, who are looking for a long-term replacement for Marcelo, appear most likely to sign Firpo at present if he does move.

Firpo joined Betis as an academy player in 2014 and has proceeded to make 32 senior appearances for the club.
Betis are currently in sixth place in La Liga, and return to action on Saturday when they face Huesca away, although Firpo missed their last game against Eibar with a hamstring injury.
