Manchester United have ruled out a move for AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud as they continue their pursuit of a No 9 in January.

United boss Erik ten Hag has made it clear that the club are looking to bring in a No 9 following the explosive departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, given the uncertainty surrounding the sale of the club – United are restricted to the loan market.

One man who won’t be going to Old Trafford is 36-year-old former Arsenal striker Giroud, who continues to be linked with a move to MLS.

The France forward has offers on the table and is reportedly open to the possibility of moving to the United States. 

He is continuing to find the net in Serie A but he is out of contract in the summer.  The striker has rejected the Italian club’s latest offer with unidentified MLS teams circling, according to ESPN’s Taylor Twellman.

The French striker scored four goals at the Qatar World Cup, which made him his nation’s all-time record goal scorer, breaking Thierry Henry’s record, after scoring his 53rd goal.

Sportsmail reported on Saturday that Man United are monitoring developments with Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.

The France international, 25, is out of contract in the summer and free to talk to foreign clubs now.

They have been evaluating a number of options with the likes of Barcelona’s Memphis Depay available while Ronaldo signing for Al Nassr may prompt the Saudi club to loan out Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar.
