Manchester United team news: Expected XI for Burnley game – Solskjaer to make nine changes

Man Utd: Solskjaer assesses van de Beek performance

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to ring the changes for his side’s crunch Premier League clash with Burnley on Tuesday night. Victory for the Red Devils would see them leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the table ahead of their blockbuster showdown on Sunday. So Express Sport will now take a look at how the home side should line up for the contest at Old Trafford, with nine changes expected.

Goalkeeper: De Gea

Dean Henderson has started United’s last two matches, against Manchester City and Watford respectively.

But the Red Devils are likely to reinstate David De Gea for the match against Burnley.

The Spain international will need some lifting after missing out on consecutive starts – something that hasn’t happened very often during his time at the club.

And with De Gea being much-improved this term, we expect him to start the match.

Henderson then should be on the bench, especially with Sergio Romero nearing a move away from the club.

Defence: Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw

United changed their back four for the match against Watford.

Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Alex Telles were all unleashed against the Hornets – and all helped the home side keep a clean sheet.

But, while that’s the case, Solskjaer is likely to go stronger for the match against Burnley.

Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have trained ahead of the contest so they should be reinstated to the side.

And so too should Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Midfield: Fred, Van de Beek, Fernandes

If United don’t play Fred, they have seldom little bite in the middle of the park.

So with the Brazil international being rested for the win over Watford, it seems feasible he’ll be selected.

Donny van de Beek caught the eye against the Championship side and, with Solskjaer revealing in the aftermath some would keep their place, the Dutchman is primed to be deployed too.

As for Bruno Fernandes, United don’t work the same without him.

So, even with a crunch match against Liverpool creeping closer, expect him to start.

Attack: Mata, Martial, Rashford

This is the sort of match where this United side will need their experienced heads to guide them through.

Therefore, Juan Mata may keep his place for the match at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer recently hailed the Spain international for his professionalism, admitting it was difficult for the veteran to be on the bench.

But with Mata doing well against Watford, he could be picked from the start.

And United could give Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford chances to add to their goal tallies – with the former in particular need of a confidence boost.
