Marcus Rashford is working on his latest project – becoming a successful novelist.

Manchester United ’s heroic forward has done incredible work for the UK’s youth in 2020 in tackling child poverty and battling the Government over free school meals.

And now he is looking to inspire the next generation with his first book.

As part of a deal with Macmillan Children’s Books, Rashford will be launching ‘YOU ARE A CHAMPION: Unlock Your Potential, Find Your Voice and Be the BEST You Can Be’ in May 2021.

The 23-year-old is excited for the release and revealed reading is only something that became an important part of his life later than for most kids.

He told The Athletic : “I only started reading at 17, and it completely changed my outlook and mentality.

“I just wish I was offered the opportunity to really engage with reading more as a child, but books were never a thing we could budget for as a family when we needed to put food on the table.

“There were times where the escapism of reading could have really helped me. I want this escapism for all children.”

The England international goalscorer will also be launching the Marcus Rashford Book Club next year.

It is a long-term mission for Rashford, who intends to bring out two further fiction titles for readers aged seven-plus in the year 2022.

His first will be structured around stories from the food poverty campaigner’s own life.

It is said topics like navigating adversity, timing and seizing opportunity will be covered.

Additionally, the value of education, positive mentality and female role models are also part of the book.

Rashford is working on it with Carl Anka and performance psychologist Katie Warriner.
