Mario Gotze 'rejects offer from David Beckham's Inter Miami'

Mario Gotze ‘rejected £5.3m-per-year salary offer from David Beckham’s Inter Miami’ as he wants to stay in Europe after leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer

  • Mario Gotze is a free agent after his contract at Borussia Dortmund expired
  • David Beckham’s Inter Miami side were keen to offer Gotze a £5.3m a year deal
  • The 28-year-old still has his eyes set though on competing in European football

Mario Gotze has rejected the advances of David Beckham’s Inter Miami side as he still has desires of playing in Europe.

The 28-year-old is currently without a club after he left Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract this summer.

Beckham is looking to bring some experienced players to his fledgling MLS outfit, and they had the man who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final on their agenda.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami side were reportedly keen to bring the German midfielder in

German newspaper Bild have reported that Gotze was approached by Inter Miami in an invitation to move to America and play in the MLS.

The 28-year-old reportedly declined the offer explaining that he’s ‘not done with Europe yet’.

If he said yes to their offer, it is believed Gotze would have been on a £5.3m per year salary and would have been one of the highest earners in the league.

At one time Gotze was one of the highly valued young prospects in Europe after impressive performances for Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Germany.

His winning goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final, made him the youngest player to score in a final since German Wolfgang Weber in 1966, who was also 22.

After returning to Dortmund in 2016 after a three year stint at Bayern Munich,  Gotze’s stock began to decline as he failed to make the 2018 German World Cup side and has dropped down the pecking order for his club.

Now without a club, it is believed that several European clubs do hold interest in the 28-year-old.

Monaco, Sevilla, Fiorentina, AC Milan and Roma are all understood to have expressed interest in the creative midfielder.

Inter Miami are keen on bringing some top names to the club, with Blaise Matuidi of Juventus most recently linked.
