Mesut Ozil spotted with Istanbul Basaksehir manager Okan Buruk

Fancy seeing YOU here! Mesut Ozil spotted with Istanbul Basaksehir manager Okan Buruk after £350,000-a-week Arsenal outcast ‘is offered route out of the Premier League’ by Turkish champions

  • Mesut Ozil has found himself deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal
  • The German midfielder is under contract on a deal worth £350,000-a-week
  • He was spotted with Istanbul Basaksehir boss Okan Buruk now back in Turkey
  • The image sparked questions over whether Buruk could sign him this summer

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has fueled talk of his exit after he was spotted with Istanbul Basaksehir manager Okan Buruk.

Ozil, who has one year remaining on his £350,000-a-week deal with Arsenal, has no future in the side under Mikel Arteta but is proving difficult for the north London club to get off the books.

Now back out in his native Turkey with the 2019-20 season over for the Gunners, Ozil was spotted with a familiar face, leading to talk of a move back home.

Ozil did not play a minute of football after action resumed in England as part of Project Restart

The picture of Ozil and Buruk was taken by Turkish TV personality Acun Ilicali and shared on his Instagram page, which boasts 13.6m followers.

The selfie shows Ilicali smiling on what appears to be an artificial pitch with Buruk and Ozil behind him.

Back in July, the Sun reported that Turkish champions Basaksehir offered a deal for Ozil in a move that would see Buruk becoming Ozil’s manager.

Ozil still has a year remaining on his £350,000-a-week deal and it is expected he sees it out

Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut said he’ll stay this summer but then will leave for either Turkey or MLS

The club already have a history of being home to former Arsenal players with Emmanuel Adebayor spending three seasons with the club and defender Gael Clichy still featuring for them.

Ozil’s stock in England has been hit significantly since he moved from Real Madrid to Arsenal back in 2013.

But Turkish clubs are continually circling when it appears he is available with Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce all credited with interest previously.

It is clear that Ozil has no future with Arsenal having failed to play a single minute of competitive action following the resumption of football as part of Project Restart.

He won a spot on the bench on two occasions at Brighton and Southampton, the latter saw him snapped holding an umbrella to shield from the sun in the stands at St Mary’s.

Mikel Arteta has shown little willingness to persist with Ozil given his huge financial package

Despite interest in his future spiking after the image with Buruk emerged, Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut has previously insisted his client is staying in north London to conclude his lucrative contract before moving on to pastures new.

‘I don’t think Mesut will leave before the summer of 2021,’ Erkut Sogut told Fanatik.

‘He’s got an ongoing contract that hasn’t changed. He will stay with Arsenal.’

Sogut did however confirm that Ozil will likely leave the Gunners next summer once he becomes a free agent.

He added: ‘When his deal is up, I estimate there is a ninety percent chance he will leave Arsenal. Maybe Asia, America, Turkey? Who knows.’
