  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men drew 0-0 in the crunch clash at Anfield on Sunday

Micah Richards claimed Manchester United will not win the title if they play as negatively as they did in the first-half against Liverpool, despite going in 0-0 at half-time.

The north west rivals went in scoreless at the break but it was Jurgen Klopp’s Reds who had the better of the play, with 67 per cent possession and nine shots on goal compared to United’s one.

Roberto Firmino spurned several good chances for Liverpool while United’s only shot in the opening 45 minutes was Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick that went inches wide. Both sides ended up drawing the game 0-0 as they failed to seize the initiative in the Premier League title race.

At half-time of the Anfield encounter, Sky Sports pundit Richards claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will not be champions in May if they continue playing in that manner.

Richards told Sky: ‘I’m disappointed with Man United if I’m totally honest. We know they are at Anfield, but they are dropping too deep. This is a team who are top of the league – take the game to Liverpool!

‘It doesn’t matter (if they’re the champions) – you can’t win the league playing like that. They are good on the counter but (Marcus) Rashford has been offside seven or eight times in that first-half!

‘I’ve talked them up, especially on the counter, but they ain’t winning the league playing as negatively as that.’

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, meanwhile, claimed the Red Devils were a threat to Liverpool in the first-half despite a lack of clear-cut chances.

The former Ireland midfielder admitted that a fast start from Liverpool was inevitable and that United could still hurt Jurgen Klopp’s side and their high defensive line.

Roy Keane claimed United were still dangerous in the first-half despite a lack of chances

Keane added: ‘I think United have been dangerous. Rashford has been caught offside seven or eight times, that’s a good thing.

‘Liverpool were always going to start quickly and I think United will be delighted going in at 0-0.

‘Do they want to create and pass it better? Of course they do, but Liverpool’s home record is fantastic – United need to get one of those passes right and they’re in.’
