Paul Pogba has waved his twenties goodbye, and despite his World Cup winner’s medal, the Frenchman’s career may eventually be considered a case of ‘what might have been’. Injury issues have plagued his return to Juventus and he was often a target for criticism while at Manchester United.

The rangy midfielder burst onto the scene as a teenager with Juve after being cast aside by former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. His performances were so impressive that the Red Devils swallowed their pride and forked out a world record fee to bring him back to Old Trafford in 2016.

Pogba received mixed reviews in the Premier League, with his 16-goal campaign in 2018/19 serving as a testament to his quality, while others grew frustrated at a lack of work rate. Since returning to Turin last summer, the 6ft 3in star has made just two appearances due to repeated injuries.

Man Utd return stance

Amid murmurs that Pogba’s stint at Juve could be cut short due to frustration from both sides, some had theorised that a return to Man Utd could be on the cards. The Frenchman left Old Trafford on a free transfer last summer after letting his contract wind down, and his departure hasn’t been mourned by many.

Speaking in an Amazon Prime documentary titled ‘The Pogumentary’, Pogba made it clear that his time with the Red Devils has passed and he wants to prove that they made a mistake. “My thought process is to show Manchester (United) that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract,” he said. “And to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract.”

Why Juventus are ‘fed up’

Pogba has played a total of 35 competitive minutes since announcing his return to Juventus in July last year. Recurring injury problems have supposedly left Bianconeri figures ‘fed up’ as they ponder whether to try and force through an exit.

Juve fans will have wanted to see significantly more of Pogba, particularly considering he is one of the club’s highest earners, but he has endured one setback after another this term, primarily by undergoing knee surgery but more recently due to an abductor tear that looks set to keep him out until early April.

Huge net worth

Having signed a series of lucrative contracts over the course of his career, Pogba’s net worth is estimated to be a whopping £102.5million. That makes him richer than the likes of Prince William and Harry Styles, and the midfielder still has several years left at the top level to add to his fortune.

Pogba supposedly banked a whopping £90m worth of wages during his time at Old Trafford, although he accepted a hefty pay cut to return to Serie A, where he reportedly earns £170,000 a week.
