Petr Cech responds to Chelsea fan asking about Kai Havertz after FA Cup loss

Petr Cech has remained tight-lipped over Chelsea’s push to sign Kai Havertz following the club’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

Frank Lampard’s side took an early lead at Wembley through Christian Pulisic but two goals from Piere-Emerick Aubameyang sealed victory for the Gunners.

Cech, who returned to Chelsea last summer as their technical and performance advisor, was in the stands to watch the match.

And after leaving Wembley on Saturday evening, the former goalkeeper was approached by a Chelsea supporter who asked if the club will be signing Havertz this summer.

But Cech simply replied with a laugh and said: ‘Good try!’

Chelsea have already landed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech and Havertz remains one of their top targets for the summer window.

Reports in Germany have claimed that Havertz is keen to join Chelsea and the Premier League club are willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s €100 million (£89.8m) asking price.

However, Leverkusen are only willing to let Havertz leave once their Europa League campaign finishes this summer, which could be as late as August 21 if they reach the final.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz has revealed that Havertz has already made a decision over his future.

‘I talk to Kai a lot and try to feel what all this does to him. For example, these daily rumours about transfers,’ he told Deutschen Presse-Agentur.

‘I keep finding that Kai is handling all of this very well. I don’t think he will stop playing at 29.

‘Yes, I know what he wants to do, but of course I’m not going to give it away, it’s up to him.’
