Player ratings from Man City’s win over Real Madrid

Manchester City booked their place in the last eight of the Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Etihad.

Strikes from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus were enough to seal a 4-2 aggregate win and see the Blues through to the quarter-finals.

Jesus pounced on hesitant defending by Raphael Varane to set up Sterling for the opener, before Karim Benzema headed Los Blancos level on the night.

But another error from Varane allowed Jesus to smartly finish after the break and seal the deal for Pep Guardiola's men.

Kevin de Bruyne caught the eye, but who was your man of the match at the Etihad?

Here's how the players rated…

Ederson 7

Was good in the air and saved well from Benzema, Hazard and Modric.

Walker 7

Was defensively solid and cut inside to go on one mazy run before blazing over.

Fernandinho 6

Was tidy in possession, but did not get tight enough to Benzema for his goal.

Laporte 6

Struggled at times against Benzema and his compatriot beat him to create one chance.

Cancelo 6

Started well, but was beaten all too easily by Rodrygo for Real’s equaliser.

De Bruyne 8

MOTM. Grew into the game and caused Real problems with his final balls and shooting.

Rodri 7

Did the basics well and he broke up the play for City and passed the ball well.

Gundogan 7

Showed good energy, but overhit a pass to Sterling from a great opening.

Sterling 7

Slotted home the opener with his 100th City goal and should have scored a second.

Foden 7

Started as City’s false 9 and worked hard before switching to the right at half-time.

Jesus 8

Robbed Varane to create Sterling’s opener and pounced on his mistake to score City’s second.

Subs: B Silva (Foden 67, 6), D Silva (Sterling 81, 6), Otamendi (Rodri 89).

Real Madrid (4-3-3): Courtois 7; Carvajal 6 (Vazquez 83), Varane 3, Militao 6, Mendy 7; Modric 7 (Valverde 83), Casemiro 7, Kroos 6; Rodrygo 7 (Asensio 61, 6), Benzema 8, Hazard 6 (Jovic 83).
