Real and Atletico ultras take part in violent ’10 vs 10 fight’ ahead of derby

Real Madrid and Atletico ultras arranged a meet-up to scrap with 10 on 10 prior to the Madrid derby this weekend.

The two sides are long-term foes with Los Blancos seen as the elitist side of the Spanish capital while Atletico sift around in the gutters. It has been the case for many years, present as low down as their academies where Real snap up the best youngsters in the city ahead of their close-range rivals.

Under Diego Simeone, Atletico are renowned for their doggedness and siege mentality that has utilised that underdog status to their advantage. However, that has not helped them out against Real – who have dominated them over the years.

And with the derby set to go ahead this weekend, each club's ultras have appeared to organise a quick scrap. According to information shared on social media, but credited to Spanish publications Marca, 20 men – 10 on each side – met up to have it out in a field.

Real Madrid's 10 were all dressed in white while Atletico's fans were in red before fighting, while no weapons appeared to be present.

Fans were quick to react on social media, with one user saying: "They look like they are about to take part in Tough Mudder."

Another had a decent suggestion, adding: "Add 2 goalies and play a match together."

While a third wrote: "Barca fans were the referees."

Real Madrid are currently top of La Liga after five wins out of five as they look to build on their success of last year where they won the league and the Champions League. Barcelona look like they can give them a run for their money, though, under Xavi they have not lost a domestic match so far.
