The agent of Romelu Lukaku has had his say on the Inter Milan striker’s proposed move to Chelsea. Speculation has been rife around Lukaku’s future in recent weeks, leading some frustrated Inter supporters to direct criticism towards the player.

Inter have already rejected the Blues’ £85million offer plus Marcos Alonso, according to reports, with the Italian side desperate to keep hold of their star striker.

Chelsea are likely to submit a higher bid in the coming days, with some reports suggesting they could offer over £100m plus a player in order to land their man.

And agent Federico Pastorello has responded as the tug-of-war for the Belgian forward continues.

“Thank you for your words,” Pastorello wrote, according to Football Italia.

“You will be able to hear our reasons soon, whatever happens in the end.”

Lukaku has enjoyed a prolific spell in Italy, racking up 64 goals in 95 games for the San Siro club.

His 24 league strikes last term helped Inter lift the Serie A trophy for the first time in over a decade as they finally broke Juventus’ nine-year title-winning streak.

Lukaku is settled in Italy but is now thought to be keen on a return to the club he left in 2014.

Chelsea have been impressive under manager Thomas Tuchel, who took over from Frank Lampard in January, winning the Champions League just four months into the German’s reign.

The 47-year-old immediately shored up his side’s backline following his arrival as Chelsea ended the season with the second-best defensive record in the Premier League.

But the side struggled in front of goal and only managed to return a meagre 58 league goals.

Tuchel is ready to take Chelsea to the next level and challenge for Premier League honours this time around, but knows he is in desperate need of a goalscorer.

And one man who thinks the Blues could launch an assault on the title if Lukaku does return to the club is former England striker Darren Bent.

“If Chelsea were to get Lukaku and, even if Manchester City get one of Harry Kane or Jack Grealish, Chelsea will again close the distance,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“We’ve seen them win the Champions League – you have to say quite comfortably with Werner coming in off the left.

“Last season Chelsea lost out on points because of missed chances in key moments, Werner missed an awful lot but was getting in the positions. Thomas Tuchel doesn’t really fancy Tammy Abraham.

“If you get someone like Lukaku in, you give him opportunities, he will score goals. We saw how much his link up play has improved at Euro 2020 and his touch too.

“He’s got so much better over the last couple of seasons so if Chelsea get him they are so close to Manchester City.”
