Ronaldo and Mourinho ‘could reunite at Roma’ thanks to Ten Hag

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly seeking an exit from Manchester United and could link back up with his former boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is currently in charge of Roma, leading them to Europa Conference League glory last season. He was in charge of Ronaldo for three years at Real Madrid, where the duo won the Copa del Rey and La Liga.

Ronaldo has good memories of playing under his countryman and is hoping to utilise his links to find an escape route out of United. Though he was named in the PFA Team of the Season, it was a wretched year for Ronaldo at United as they missed out on qualification for the Champions League.

His frustrations with the mountain of problems at Old Trafford have now grown so much that he is ready to leave the club. According to La Repubblica, Ronaldo does not feel part of new boss Erik ten Hag's plans a the Red Devils.

His agent Jorge Mendes has already begun the process of finding his client a new club and is 'scanning' for options. Roma have emerged as a surprise suitor for the superstar, with the Serie A side looking to take advantage of tax reductions that would come with signing Ronaldo.

Mendes has close links with the hierarchy at the Stadio Olimpico, having already moved Rui Patricio and Sergio Oliveira to the club. Their absence from the Champions League is an obstacle, though the prospect of playing under Mourinho could be an attraction.

Ronaldo previously spent three years in Italy with Juventus after leaving Madrid for £100million. He was named the country's Football of the Year twice as he won two Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia, before returning to United.

His suitability to playing in Ten Hag's system has long been questioned, despite finishing as United's highest scorer last term. It would appear that Ronaldo will not be waiting to find out, as he attempts to find a new club for the second successive summer.
