Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes missed his first Man Utd goal inside Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, missed the first goal of his second Manchester United spell as the Portugal striker opened the scoring against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The 36-year-old forward made his second United debut from the start against Newcastle as his brace helped United to a 4-1 win that sees them climb to the top of the Premier League table.

Mendes, the super agent best known for representing Ronaldo throughout his career, was in attendance in the stands at the Theatre of Dreams as his client stole the show.

However, he did not see the opening goal from the stands having vacated his seat on the brink of half-time.

The Athletic report that Mendes had left his viewpoint before the break in order to go and get his half-time cup of tea and therefore missed the goal in the second minute of stoppage time.

He was back in the crowd when Ronaldo restored the home side's lead in the second half and was pictured in an animated conversation over the phone.

Mendes had been crucial to Ronaldo's Old Trafford return and the transfer saga that led to it as he departed Juventus after three years in Turin.

He reportedly offered Ronaldo to Manchester City before negotiating personal terms with the Premier League champions, only for United to swoop in under their rivals' noses.

How many goals will Cristiano Ronaldo score this season? Let us know in the comments section below.

Once United's interest became known, Ronaldo only had eyes on one destination and a return to the red side of Manchester after 12 years away.

His agent, Mendes, was not the only recognisable face in the crowd at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, however, with a host of celebrities in attendance.

Olly Murs and Stormzy were both spotted in the stands, as were actor Gary Oldman and TV presenter Declan Donnelly.

Legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was also in attendance, having phoned Ronaldo to convince him to return to Old Trafford and snub City's interest.

Mendes will hope that the goal he missed will be the first of many for the veteran forward, as he now sits just 14 goals shy of 100 in the Premier League.
