Roy Hodgson has lashed out at Luka Milivojevic for a major breach of Covid rules at a New Year’s Eve party — but defended his decision to give the Serb the captain’s armband against Sheffield United.
Milivojevic and Aleksandar Mitrovic were filmed by the Fulham striker’s partner at a house party in London with the footage posted on social media.
The Serbia internationals are seen celebrating indoors with at least seven other people, even though government rules state people living in Tier 4 areas such as London ‘must not meet socially indoors with family or friends unless they are part of your household or support bubble’.

‘We condemn it, we certainly apologise for it,’ said Palace manager Hodgson following yesterday’s 2-0 win. ‘I’m certain Luka will as well. As far as I’m concerned he should take responsibility for that.
‘It’s an internal matter and we will deal with it, but there’s literally nothing positive I can say on the matter.’
However, many irate football fans — including supporters of Palace — were perplexed why Milivojevic wasn’t axed after his blatant rule breaking.
The former England manager added testily, ‘I’m afraid I’m not in contact with the 20-odd thousand Palace fans that we have, so I find comments like that impossible to comment on.

‘I am rather surprised if there’s an outcry from Palace fans knowing that they are more concerned basically with us winning football matches, of course, and not breaching Premier League protocols, but on the other hand this is a breach of government guidelines and we apologise for it.’
There has been an outbreak of Covid at Mitrovic’s Fulham, with their game against Tottenham in midweek having been postponed.
It was announced on Saturday that Fulham’s game away to Burnley, which was scheduled to take place today, has also been called off. A statement from Fulham said, ‘The club is looking into the matter as it takes a breach of the rules extremely seriously.
‘The player is aware of the club’s disappointment and of the standards that are expected of him.’
