Football League hero Adebayo Akinfenwa says he's been in touch with Sadio Mane ahead of the Liverpool forward's impending move to Bayern Munich.

After weeks of stern negotiations, the German giants appear to have finally landed their man after agreeing a £35million deal for the player, who has just a year remaining on his current contract at Anfield.

Akinfenwa, who is a massive Reds fan, says he texted Mane to wish him "all the best" in the Bundesliga, and revealed he received a reply from the Senegal international, which is more than he got from talkSPORT hostess Laura Woods!

"I did send him a message to be fair and I said 'look, all the best' and that, but I'm disappointed," Akinfenwa told talkSPORT.

"[Mane] replied, you (pointing at Woods) didn't! I ain't gonna lie to you, I was gonna tell you this off air because I didn't want to, you know, throw you under the but, but Mane replied to me but LW didn't."

The 40-year-old, who retired from football at the end of the season, insisted he wouldn't hold any grudges against fan favourite Mane, admitting he saw his exit coming once contract talks with the club began to stall earlier in the season, just as they did with Mohamed Salah.

"In a sense I saw it coming when the contract started to stall… because Liverpool's had nothing but success, so as a player when you have success you [would've expected him] to come out and sign a new three-year contract like [Jurgen] Klopp did," he added.

"So when that started to stall, I was like 'one of [Mane or Salah] is gonna go'. And listen I don't begrudge him, he's won everything and he wants a new change, but I just think that crop of players, that front line and what he's built there, Mane's just so synonymous with the Klopp era … for me he's what Liverpool's all about."

Mane has scored 120 goals in 269 games for Liverpool and has been one of the figureheads of the club's most successful era in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old has won six major honours since arriving at the club from Southampton in 2016, including the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League in 2019.
