Tequila sales shoot up 300% thanks to William Saliba and Arsenal fans new chant

Tequila sales have rocketed in recent weeks – and it's all thanks to Arsenal's William Saliba and his new chant.

Arsenal fans could be heard along the South Coast blasting out a rendition of The Champs' song Tequila. However, the one important lyric of the song was changed to the surname of the new Arsenal star.

Saliba notched in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth, causing the Arsenal fans to burst into song. And, according to nightlife and free drinks app,DUSK, sales of tequila, specifically Palomas, a tequila-based cocktail are up 300% week on week.

Since Arsenal's clash with Bournemouth, Mikel Arteta has admitted the chant has made its way into the dressing room – and it's not just Arsenal players that have fallen in love with Tequila.

DUSK CEO and co-founder Sophie Abrahamovitch said: “With more than 10,000 free Palomas redeemed, an increase in sales of the Mexican liquor and Arsenal fans singing Saliba’s name, it seems we’ve all fallen back in love with tequila.

She added: "It’s been amazing to help recruit a new wave of tequila drinkers among Gen Z and Millennials for Patrón – and as a life-long Arsenal supporter, even some of the fans.”

Saliba had to wait for his chance in the Arsenal first team – and he finally got his shot at the start of the season, impressions players and pundits alike.

He told Canal+: “I came back here to win so it’s nice to start the season well. We had a very good start to the season until the match against Manchester United, but we are still first.

“From a personal point of view, it was better for me to go on loan to play, make mistakes, learn. I came back stronger and with new ambitions. These experiences proved to me that football is complicated, but that you should never give up and believe in yourself.”
