Three potential Chelsea transfers this month after Declan Rice admission

Frank Lampard could get further additions to his Chelsea squad this month.

Despite a huge summer spend that included the arrivals of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell, the Blues have slipped out of title contention following a poor run of form.

Although their manager has insisted that he was never expecting his squad to challenge for top spot immediately after they were brought together, he knows they need to find more victories.

Daily Star Sport have taken a look at three players who could help the club climb back up into the top four in 2021 as they target Champions League qualification.

Declan Rice

Declan Rice has been widely linked with a move back to Chelsea after forcing himself into first-team plans at West Ham and into Gareth Southgate’s England side.

The 21-year-old, who can play in both central midfield and defence, was released by the Blues at 16, and a return to Stamford Bridge could be the perfect next step in his career.

It has now been reported by the Mirror that Rice had told friends that he has no interest in moving to Manchester United, giving Chelsea a boost should they make a bid.

One player who won’t be joining is former Fulham striker Moussa Dembele, who is set to join Atletico Madrid from Lyon as a replacement for Diego Costa.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Although Edouard Mendy impressed following his arrival at Stamford Bridge, his recent performances could force Lampard to eye up a long-term replacement.

That replacement could come in the form of AC Milan stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is out of contract in the summer having spent his entire career with the club.

Having made 226 appearances before his 22nd birthday, Iker Casillas hinted that he could find a new challenge so earlier in his career.

Casillas wrote on Twitter : "In my opinion, Donnarumma should play at a club with more tradition. My error!! AC Milan has tradition. I mean more importance in Europe right now.”

Dayot Upamecano

One potential long-term option at the back could be Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old France international has impressed during his time in the Bundesliga, and according to Fabrizio Romano he is set to leave his current club this summer.

With Lampard knowing that Thiago Silva won’t be able to play at his current standard forever, Upamecano’s buy-out clause of under £40m could prove tempting.
