The Republic of Ireland international hasn’t yet been able to establish himself as a regular in the starting lineup for Tottenham, making just nine starts in the Premier League.

Having often thrived as a right wing-back for Wolves, Doherty has found it difficult to replicate those performances when used as a right-back for Tottenham.

The improvement of fellow right-back Serge Aurier has limited Doherty’s chances this season

Doherty was sent off against Leeds in January and has played 90 minutes in the league just once since then, which came when he was deployed on the left side of the defence against Liverpool.

The 29-year-old, whose contract runs until 2024, is determined to fight for his place at Tottenham.

However, the improvement of Serge Aurier has limited Doherty’s chances, while youngster Japhet Tanganga is also capable of playing at right-back.
