What latest Juventus points deduction means for Serie A as giants punished again

Wrexham prepare for life in the Football League

Juventus have been hit with a fresh points deduction that has caused further chaos and drama in Serie A, with a huge impact on the table. Massimiliano Allegri’s side had been on course for a finish inside the Champions League places, but another financial penalty has seen their season and short-term future plunged into uncertainty.

The club were initially docked 15 points for financial rule violations in the transfer market which saw several of the club’s chiefs banned from football – including Tottenham’s sporting director Fabio Paratici.

That penalty was overturned on appeal but the verdict was sent to the Federal Court of Appeal, which has now determined that Juventus are punished with a 10-point deduction.

Juventus will have the opportunity to appeal the decision, which would ensure that a sixth court case on the matter could take place as the club’s rivals will be eagerly waiting to find out where they are left in the table following the fresh punishment.

After Juventus were docked 10 points, they have dropped from second to seventh and fallen outside of a European place. In Italy, the top four teams finish in the Champions League places which ensures that AC Milan could return to Europe’s top competition after being bumped up from fifth to fourth.

While Atalanta moved up from a UEFA Europa Conference League spot to a Europa League spot and Jose Mourinho’s Roma have been handed a lifeline despite their 2-2 draw at home to Salernitana as they now sit in the Conference League spot.

Juventus chief Pavel Nedved was reportedly acquitted in the appeal, but missing out on European football would seriously harm the club financially and puts them in risk of losing their key players who want to play at the highest level possible.
