Zinedine Zidane has ruled out the possibility of Raphael Varane leaving Real Madrid in the near future after speculation linking the centre-back with a move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils are keen to add a high-quality centre-back to their squad and have long been admirers of the Frenchman.
United are considering making a big move for Varane next summer, but Zidane has warned them off doing so, saying that the defender is categorically not for sale at any price.
Since arriving from Lens in 2011, the World Cup winner has made over 300 appearances for the club, winning four Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns.
With 10 appearances already this season Varane remains an integral figure for Zidane and his compatriot insists he is going nowhere.
‘It’s not just me [who wants to keep him],’ said Zidane. ‘He is part of this club, we were very lucky to be able to bring him to Madrid.
‘He has a great career, he’s achieved a lot since he’s been here. Of course, he is untransferable for the club, for the coach that I am, for people in general.
‘That’s clear and unambiguous. Now we can’t stop people from talking. They’re not just talking about Varane, but about all the players, Real Madrid ones and others.
‘But for Varane, my position is clear, and it’s the same as the club’s position.’
Varane has less than two years left on his contract in Madrid, with his current deal expiring in 2022.
Spanish publication AS reported back in April that there has been no movement on a renewal and little has surfaced since then.
The Frenchman has made no signals that he is keen to move to another club, but with United and also Paris Saint-Germain interested in his services, a summer move could become likely if he does not sign a new deal with the Spanish champions.
One of the most valuable defenders in the world, Real Madrid would certainly not allow him to enter the final year of his contract and risk losing him on a free in 2022.
