British sensation Emma Raducanu was dubbed as the ‘Queen of New York’ ahead of the biggest match of her career on Wednesday evening. Many believed she would fall at the third hurdle at the US Open after taking on Shelby Rogers, who knocked out world number one Ash Barty the round previous.

But the rampant Brit continued her surprise success with a 6-2, 6-1 annihilation of Rogers om Monday – leading players around the world to sing her praises.

Raducanu takes on Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic tomorrow for a place in the last four at Flushing Meadows after barnstorming her way to the quarter finals without even dropping a set.

The 18-year-old has spilled only 15 games in the entire tournament – the fewest of any player since Serena Williams in 2013 – and the way in which she conducted the demolition of Rogers in the last 16 had one of the sports’ legends insisting Britain had found a new tennis icon.

Martina Navratilova, who won four of her 18 Grand Slam singles titles in New York, said to Amazon Prime: “She’s a superstar in the making. You don’t want to put too much pressure on her but she’s got it.

“You saw it the first time you saw Nadal. You saw it the first time you saw Djokovic. You saw it with Alcaraz, the new star.

“It’s just there. Martina Hingis. She is just born for it.”

Navratilova is one of the most rewarding people that any female tennis star can receive praise from, with only Serena Williams and Steffi Graf ahead of her in Grand Slam victories.

She will know more than anyone the health risks that can plague pro athletes, but Navratilova has backed her to overcome them and dominate the sport in the future.

“The only concern is health,” the Czech-American legend continued.

“If her body is willing, I think everything else is there.
