World No 1 Novak Djokovic had no problems overcoming Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso at the French Open to extend his Grand Slam winning streak to 25 matches.
Not only has Djokovic never lost to someone ranked as low as 147th-ranked Caruso at a major, but Caruso had never won a match at a major until this week. His 6-3 6-3 6-2 victory was never in doubt on the hottest day of the tournament so far.
While the scoreline may appear straightforward, many games were tight and Djokovic had to save five break points, four of them in the opening set, where he took a bathroom break unusually after only seven games.
He dug in, though, and is through to the fourth round without having dropped a set.
Fifth seed Alexander Zverev survived yet another five-set examination, beating Dusan Lajovic 6-4 6-2 4-6 1-6 6-2 to set up a mouth-watering meeting with Fabio Fognini.
Of the eight matches the German has played at Roland Garros in the last two years, five have gone the distance, including two out of three this time.
Fognini improved to 12-2 on clay in his last four tournaments.
But once again he found a way to win having let a two-set lead slip and he will take on ninth seed Fognini, who defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 4-6 6-1, in the last 16 on Monday.
Sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was made to work hard again before finishing off a third-round win over Filip Krajinovic at Roland Garros.
The match was called off because of darkness at 9.52pm on Friday, one of the latest finishes ever at the French Open, with Tsitsipas two sets up and at 5-5 in the third set.
Serbian Krajinovic took the third-set tie-break on the resumption and had a set point to take it to a decider but Tsitsipas scraped through 7-5 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (8-6).
Tsitsipas is one of the contenders for the title in Paris after finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic in Rome and reaching the semi-finals in Madrid last month.
He next faces 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka who defeated Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (10-8) in a match suspended after two sets because of fading light a day earlier.
