UFC president Dana White has threatened employees with the sack if they confront an official as he responded to a spat between a top referee and commentator last week.
Referee Herb Dean came under fire for what some believed was a late stoppage in Francisco Trinaldo’s win over Jai Herbert as enraged commentator Dan Hardy yelled out from his position beside the Octagon for Dean to end things.
Hardy confronted Dean after the fight but the ref defended his decision.
Regardless of who was right or wrong, White said there’s no place in his organisation for people to challenge officials like Hardy did.
“If you work for me and you approach a judge or a referee or any type of official, I will fire you,” White said at the UFC Vegas 5 weigh-ins.
“You will lose your job. You will never work for me again if you do that.”
White referenced an ugly incident in Dubai today Ahmad Al Darmaki refused to break his choke hold even when referee Marc Goddard stopped the bout, leading the fighter to start shoving Goddard before ultimately being disqualified.

"Come on, STOP THE FIGHT!" – Commentators rage at late stoppage
UFC: UFC veteran Francisco Trinaldo finished opponent Jai Herbert in devastating fashion, but his victory was overshadowed when referee Herb Dean didn’t stop the fight early enough.
“Nobody has the right — listen, you want to criticise judges, you want to criticise referees, you didn’t agree with a decision or things like that … we love Dan,” White said.
“Dan got emotional. And the problem is now, with this set-up, it’s a lot easier to do. It’s a lot easier to interact with everybody, from the fighters to the refs to the media and everybody.
“If you work for me in any capacity and you approach a referee or judge or an official, I will fire you that night on the spot. That can never happen here again.”
Asked if he’d spoken to Hardy about his attack on Dean, White added: “I’m speaking to him right now. I’m speaking to everybody.
“Don’t ever do it, ever again. And if you’re a fighter, and you put your hands on or threaten any official, you will never, ever fight here again, period.”
