Megan Rapinoe has slammed Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales for \u2018physically assaulting\u2019 Jenni Hermoso at the Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n
Rubiales was pictured grabbing Hermoso and kissing the player on the lips during Spain\u2019s celebrations after beating England in Sunday\u2019s final.<\/p>\n
His actions have been widely condemned with Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez describing the incident as \u2018unacceptable\u2019.<\/p>\n
Rubiales has since apologised for his actions after Hermoso came out and said that she \u2018didn\u2019t like\u2019 the kiss.<\/p>\n
Outspoken United States legend Rapinoe, who made 202 appearances for the USWNT and helped her nation win back-to-back World Cups in 2015 and 2019, has now offered her views on what happened.<\/p>\n
\u2018It made me think about how much we are required to endure,\u2019 Rapinoe told American outlet The Atlantic.<\/p>\n
\u2018Think how much that Spanish team had to shoulder: Some of the players who stood up way back last year [to protest poor treatment by their coach and federation] still aren\u2019t on the team.<\/p>\n
\u2018Maybe that was something that galvanized them, but you shouldn\u2019t have to have that.<\/p>\n
\u2018There was another picture that signals such a deep level of misogyny and sexism in that federation and in that man [Luis Rubiales] at the final whistle, just\u00a0grabbing\u00a0his crotch.<\/p>\n
\u2018What kind of upside-down world are we in? On the biggest stage, where you should be celebrating, Jenni [Hermoso] has to be physically assaulted by this guy.\u2019<\/p>\n
