Daniel Dubois believes he is ready to cause one of boxing’s biggest upsets as he stared down Oleksandr Usyk in Wroclaw.

The British heavyweight is facing the monumental task of ending Usyk’s unbeaten run and ripping the WBA, IBF and WBO titles from the Ukrainian.

It’s set to be an emotional night for Usyk as he fights in Poland just days after Ukraine Independence Day.

There are expected to be 43,000 fans at the Tarczynski Arena with many Ukrainians who have been displaced here because of the ongoing war in their homeland.

But Dubois is ready to spoil the celebration after preparing for his first world title shot in Spain with new trainer Don Charles.

He said: “I’m ready, I’ve suffered in training camp and I’m ready now. I’ve left no stone unturned. I’m ready to go now.”

Daniel Dubois challenges Oleksandr Usyk for the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles on Saturday night in Poland. You can watch the action live on TNT Sports pay-per-view, with Dubois hoping to cause an upset.

£19.95

Dubois was short and sweet with his words but his promoter Frank Warren was more bullish in his man’s chances of pulling off the shock.

Warren said: He’s got more experience than some guys who have won world titles. Usyk is a great fighter and was a great cruiserweight but he’s now at Daniel's weight.

“Daniel is coming into the lion's den, that’s what it is about. He’s not going to go in there and throw bombs. I’ll be the bag carrier carrying the belts back for Daniel.”

Usyk – as he does usually – spent the press conference doing a puzzle given to him by one of his team members as he acted disinterested through the media event at the stadium where they will face off on Saturday night.

But the Ukrainian spoke proudly about his country after spending time fighting on the frontline himself in recent months.

He was presented with a painting at the end of the press conference which was given to him by the Ukraine military as a mark of respect for his service in the conflict with Russia and also his achievements in the ring.

The former undisputed cruiserweight champion also joked that his training camp has been more about football and dancing than fighting.

He said: “My preparation is all good. We do a lot of work, we play football, we danced, yeah.”
