Liverpool are steadfast in their stance that star player Mo Salah is not for sale this summer, despite continued audacious efforts by Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad to sign the Egyptian on a big-money deal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already sold Fabinho to Al-Ittihad this transfer window and the club have held an interest in Salah all summer. They view the 31-year-old forward as a potential crown jewel ahead of their participation in the Club World Cup this winter, which is held in Saudi Arabia.

But Salah, the most popular Arab athlete in the world, would now have to tarnish his Anfield reputation by forcing a move away, after Liverpool have strongly stated they will not play ball with offers of any size.

The only way a move would happen is if the player, club and agent Ramy Abbas all gave the green light to Salah’s departure – which has not happened yet. Abbas insisted a fortnight ago that Salah would not leave this year and said his player was committed to Liverpool.

Earlier in the summer, Al-Ittihad were said to be willing to pay Salah around £77million a year to join them. The team is managed by former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and they have also signed N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema and Fabinho.

It would be a major blow for Jurgen Klopp to lose Salah at such a late stage in the window

But they have accelerated their desire for Salah now due to the Club World Cup. The player has not ruled out any potential move and is yet to formally decline Al Ittihad’s approach. Even if a potential exit does not come to fruition this summer, it is certainly one to watch next year.

Salah is the best paid player in Liverpool’s history and signed a new deal last summer worth around £350,000 a week, with two years remaining on that contract. He is now part of the Reds’ leadership group after Jordan Henderson’s exit and is still Klopp’s key player.

Losing him with just a week left of the transfer window would have seismic impacts on Klopp and could derail their season. Liverpool would find it nearly impossible to sign an adequate replacement in that time.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been openly critical that the Premier League window closes before that of Saudi Arabia, making it harder for English clubs to replace any outward bound stars at the tail end of the summer.

‘One of the worst things, if I’m not mistaken, is that the Saudi Arabian market lasts three more weeks. UEFA or FIFA have to remedy this,’ he said.

Salah’s former Reds team-mate Dejan Lovren remains unconvinced that a move will materialise, posting a GIF on X in response to the reports which mimed an extending nose, subtitled ‘Stop Lying’.

But sources say Al Ittihad are prepared to go all out for Salah and after the Gulf state clubs tempted the likes of Neymar to their league this summer, clubs are aware no player is too ambitious.
