Lewis Hamilton gave an X-rated response when he was asked about his frustrating Dutch Grand Prix qualifying session. The Mercedes star will start the race in P13 after failing to make it out of Q2.

Yuki Tsunoda was punished with a three-place grid penalty for impeding Hamilton on his final flying lap, which cost the Mercedes star a place in Q3. Hamilton was extremely blunt when asked about how he felt.

“S**t happens,” Hamilton said on Viaplay. “I’ll just give it my best shot tomorrow.” In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Hamilton went on to explain why he struggled. He said: “I did two fast laps at the end and the tyres overheated, so I couldn’t improve on the last lap.

“The same as I just qualified, which wasn’t really good. Hopefully when the car’s a little bit heavier [with fuel], maybe we’ll be able to progress forward. It’s not an easy track to move forwards on, but tomorrow’s a new day, so I’ll give it my best tomorrow.”

Hamilton added: “We did make some changes thinking it was going in the right direction, but it just didn’t work. George went in a different direction and it seemed to have worked for him.”

Meanwhile, Toto Wolff could not hide his frustration and went called out Tsunoda’s actions. The Mercedes boss said: “I think Lewis had really good pace all weekend and it’s really painful to see that, because of traffic, you’re not making use of [safely] going into Q3, which he would have deserved.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. He dived on the inside, and it didn’t look like it cost much, but going from a dry line to a wet line and back onto dry line cost him. I think a tenth would have put him into Q3.”
