Manchester City are poised to sign Wolves rebel Matheus Nunes in a \u00a347.2m deal – who once worked in a bakery.<\/p>\n

Nunes travelled to Manchester on Wednesday to undergo a medical, after both clubs agreed a fee for the Portuguese midfielder – and provided there are no problems, Nunes will sign a five-year deal at the Etihad to become Pep Guardiola's fourth summer signing.<\/p>\n

City bosses were prepared to walk away from the deal last week after seeing a similar bid rejected, with Wolves holding out for closer to \u00a360m.<\/p>\n

But Wolves performed a U-turn after Nunes went on strike in a bid to force through a move to the English champions, who will now pay the fee upfront instead of in instalments.<\/p>\n

Nunes comes from humble beginnings, and when playing for Sporting Lisbon's youth teams, he worked in a bakery.<\/p>\n

"The bakery showed he was different to most players who never experience anything beyond football," Alexandre Santos, one of Nunes\u2019 mentors, told The Athletic.<\/p>\n

"He was really mature and he valued what he had. He wasn\u2019t in a rush to reach the highest level."<\/p>\n

However, after breaking into the first team, Nunes quickly established himself as a top talent. And his performances were enough for Wolves to take a \u00a338million punt on him last summer.<\/p>\n

Nunes caught the eye of Guardiola last season – and the Catalan described as one of the best midfielders in the world.<\/p>\n

City midfielder Tommy Doyle, meanwhile, will travel in the opposite direction to join Wolves on a season-long loan.<\/p>\n

Wolves, who will pay Doyle's wages, will have the option to make the move permanent for \u00a35m next summer, but the deal will include a significant sell-on clause.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, City have ended their interest in West Ham's Lucas Paqueta, who faces an uncertain future as the FA investigate potential breaches of betting regulations.<\/p>\n
