The summer transfer window is now closed with Premier League clubs having spent an eye-watering £2billion on new signings. Deadline day provided plenty of drama – and Express Sport has taken you through the biggest and strangest moves.

Cole Palmer, Man City to Chelsea

Chelsea kicked off deadline day by announcing the £45m arrival of Cole Palmer from Manchester City. The Treble winners surprisingly allowed the academy graduate to leave, but ultimately needed to balance their books after a big-spending window.

Matheus Nunes, Wolves to Man City

Palmer’s departure from City was largely due to the arrival of Matheus Nunes from Wolves, for whom the reigning champions have paid an eye-watering £53m. It was a busier window than usual for Pep Guardiola, who welcomed four additions at a combined cost of £220m.

READ MORE: Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has Lionel Messi warning for new signing Palmer[LATEST]

Ryan Gravenberch, Bayern Munich to Liverpool

Liverpool were desperate for midfielders at the start of the window and were rocked by the surprise departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Endo Wataru were all signed.

But the early signs from Liverpool’s start to the Premier League season proved they needed at least another. In came long-term target Ryan Gravenberch for £34.2m, who ended a miserable year at Bayern Munich to join Klopp’s side.

Brennan Johnson, Nottingham Forest to Tottenham

Deadline day was also headlined by Brennan Johnson’s £45m switch to Tottenham. A deal that had taken a while to get off the ground, Spurs finally agreed a fee with Nottingham Forest on Friday morning.

Johnson has been an impressive part of Forest’s Premier League team over the last 12 months. His arrival at Spurs provides added competition to the forward areas, where Ange Postecoglou was desperate to improve.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. More info

DON’T MISS…

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea to Nottingham Forest

Forest replaced Johnson with Chelsea outcast Callum Hudson-Odoi. It is an excellent replacement for the outgoing Wales international, but also a strange deal considering the lack of competition Forest faced.

Wide-ranging reports suggest that the Midlands side have paid just £3m up front to sign the 22-year-old, who was once linked with a big-money switch to Bayern Munich. The fact it’s taken a club so long into the transfer window to snap up Hudson-Odoi at that price only adds to the intrigue. There is plenty of time for the winger to realise his huge potential.

Ansu Fati, Barcelona to Brighton

There were fewer signings further left-field than former wonderkid Ansu Fati’s loan arrival at Brighton. Linked with Arsenal and Manchester United earlier in the window, it was the Seagulls who snapped up the Spaniard on a temporary deal from Barcelona.

Evidence of how far Brighton have come in a short space of time, Fati will be a strong addition to the Premier League – if he can stay fit.

Jonny Evans, free agent to Man Utd

A Premier League move perhaps awaited Jonny Evans following Leicester’s relegation last season – but fans certainly did not expect a return to Manchester United. Evans spent pre-season with the Red Devils on a short-term deal, but has now agreed to sign for the remainder of the season.

United favour having an experienced player in the U21s squad, and that is where Evans could get most of his game time. Harry Maguire remaining at Old Trafford surely means Evans won’t play many games under Ten Hag.

Evans was one of four arrivals at Old Trafford on Friday – joining Sofyan Amrabat, Sergio Reguilon and Altay Bayindir.

Divock Origi, AC Milan to Nottingham Forest

Just when Everton might have hoped to see the back of their nemesis Divock Origi, the Liverpool cult hero made a return to the Premier League in the final hours of the window. A disappointing year with AC Milan has prompted a move back to England, where the Belgian has joined Forest on loan.
